Biography
Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya is a Ghanaian YouTube personality, vlogger, digital media influencer and aeronautical engineer. ‘Wode Maya’ means ‘My Mother’ in Chinese.
Wode Maya had his basic and secondary education in Ghana before gaining a scholarship to Shenyang Aerospace University to study Aeronautical Engineering. He left Ghana in 2012. He was initially destined to study in the United Kingdom but was denied a visa so he ended up in China.
Wode Maya disclosed that racial discrimination forced him into vlogging when he was denied jobs due to his color. He joined YouTube on January 10, 2013, and began posting his experiences in the country.
Having left China with a loan from friends to pursue his passions, Wode Maya first traveled to about five African countries sharing his travel experiences and each country’s culture.
And today, his YouTube channel Wode Maya, which started off as a bridge between Africa and Asia, has grown to be the welcome train to the African diaspora, he says on his website.
He has travelled to 17 countries of Africa to feature different kinds of companies and people and has himself been featured by many top YouTubers all around the continent.
